Climb to the top of the hill and a breathtaking panorama of the entire surroundings opens up. It's an incredibly powerful sight! On one side – the ghost town of Kayaköy near Ölüdeniz, with its ruined houses and no trace of civilisation; on the other – a lively, ordinary Turkish village with red-tiled roofs, citrus and olive groves and warm-hearted people.
The Lycian Rock Tombs in Fethiye
Carved into the cliff above the town is a group of ancient Lycian rock tombs that have become one of Fethiye's most famous landmarks. The highest of them, the Tomb of Amyntas, is the most important one and was built in 350 BC for "Amyntas, son of Hermagios" (according to the Greek inscription on the tomb wall). He is believed to have been a local Lycian ruler or nobleman. The Lycian rock tombs visited from Ölüdeniz are a mystical yet thrilling sight that lets you touch ancient history and feel the spirit of Lycian culture. Besides seeing the rock tombs themselves, those who make the climb are rewarded with spectacular views over the town and the surrounding coastline.
