If you want to see a side of Thailand that most visitors never reach, Nakhon Nayok is the place. This quiet, green province sits around two hours from Pattaya and is a favourite weekend retreat for Thais themselves, while foreign tourists are still a rare sight.
The day centres on the Khlong Tha Dan dam, one of the large water projects launched under King Rama IX that protect the region from drought and let farmers grow crops all year round. Set at the foot of Khao Yai National Park, the reservoir is framed by forested hills and best explored by motorboat. Later you cool off in the multi-tiered Sarika Waterfall, named after a forest bird, then slow down at a traditional farm and a Buddhist temple hidden in a bamboo grove.
Guests under the influence of alcohol or drugs may be refused participation. The tour is guided in Russian.
Swimwear, a towel, comfortable shoes, sunscreen and some cash for the fruit market.
Transfer included: we pick you up at your hotel. We'll confirm the pickup time after you book.
